Susan Boyle Weight Loss
In 2009, Susan Boyle became one of the most well-known singers to come out of the Britain’s Got Talent franchise with her amazing singing voice, beautiful smile, and her winning personality. However, she has also become known for her mind-blowing weight loss transformation when she dropped over 50 pounds! Today, she is boasting a healthier and more active lifestyle, and she has enjoyed a stellar career. Since her appearance in Britain’s Got Talent, she has already released 7 albums, and is worth an estimated $35 million!
Susan Boyle put in the hard work and dedication in both her personal and professional life, and she is enjoying the benefits today.
Who is Susan Boyle?
Born in Scotland on April 1, 1961, Susan was the youngest daughter of Patrick and Bridget Boyle. During her early years, she struggled with a learning disability brought about by oxygen deprivation during a difficult birth, but she never let that stop her from fulfilling her dream to be a singer. She took singing lessons and even won several local singing competitions before she auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent. There, her rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables quickly made her a favorite of both the judges and the fans, and although Susan Boyle did not win during her season (she came in second), her singing career took off.
Her first album, “I Dreamed a Dream”, became the fastest-selling debut album in the UK, selling almost half a million copies, and in the US, it sold more than 700,000 copies during its first week.
Their lifestyle and weight problem
Susan Boyle struggled with weight and appearance issues since her childhood. As a child, she was bullied by her peers because of how she looked. In fact, her initial appearance on Britain’s Got Talent built her image and story arc upon her appearance, both as a way to rebuke society’s tendency to negatively judge others based on their physical appearance, and to remind people that talent and artistry should not be judged based on how a person looks.
Aside from her own personal struggles with her body image and weight, Susan Boyle also found it difficult to cope with the demanding and taxing schedule of her fame. She was regularly traveling to different places to perform, making it hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle and diet. As a result, Susan Boyle was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes by her doctors in 2012. Unfortunately this was not the only health condition Susan found in the diagnoses. She was also diagnosed with Asperger which jeopardize her singing career. This served as a wake-up call for Susan Boyle, and she made the decision to shift her lifestyle and her diet choice and start an effective weight loss program.
How They Lost Weight
Susan Boyle weight loss system used three methods to lose weight.
She removed sugar from her diet
When she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, Susan Boyle’s doctors made her cut out sugar from her diet, specifically simple sugars. Since she was diagnosed with diabetes, this meant that her body was not able to produce enough insulin to metabolize the sugar in her diet, and all the unused sugar in her system could have caused her health to further deteriorate. If left untreated, diabetes could cause increased weight gain, fatigue, and skin conditions, and might even lead to kidney damage, heart disease, or even death. Susan made a drastic change in her diet by cutting out cakes and sweets, which she has called “the bane of her existence”. She instead switched to more natural sugars found in fruits and vegetables, and she also increased her consumption of healthy fats and proteins by eating more lean meat, nuts, and seeds.
However, simply changing her diet was not enough for Susan Boyle to achieve her target weight loss goals.
She increased her physical activity
Aside from modifying her diet to consume healthier food items, she also increased her physical activity. Exercise is an essential part of weight loss and a healthy lifestyle, and in Susan Boyle’s case, it was critical for her to shed the pounds. Since she was already 50 years old when she started on her lifestyle change, she needed an exercise that was low-impact and easy on her knees: walking! Even with a simple exercise regimen of a daily 2-mile walk, she was able to reduce weight and lower her blood sugar levels without putting too much stress on her joints.
She used supplements
You can think of using supplements as a way to “boost” one’s journey to a healthier lifestyle. Supplements help curb cravings, improve one’s mood, and even increase a person’s metabolism. Burniva is one such supplement that can help a person lose weight.
Even though Susan Boyle was already experiencing health issues that caused her to stop touring in 2015, she did not let that stop her from focusing on her weight loss and becoming healthier. Today, she is enjoying a much happier and healthier life because of her motivation and determination to change her eating habits and exercise routine.
